The following is an excerpt from a speech given by Captain Blake at the most recent Starmud Law Enforcement Agency Convention.
'My fellow Law Enforcement officers, today we face the most serious threat to the civilized society that we have fought hard over the centuries to build.Yes, even more serious than the ever present threat of nuclear holocaust and the danger of invasion from planets thousands of light years away.This threat is one of pure evil. Pure deceit.Pure malevolence.
Each and every day of our lives, we fight to put violent criminals where they belong, in the Cryochambers.But despite the numerous successes that we achieve, there is a never-ending battle to be fought.The armory of the modern convict is impressive.
Convicts can stealthily creep through the shadows, surprising their victims with a ferocious backstab attack.These low-life have no honor; they rarely fight fairly, brawling like cheap drunkards. Living their life on the streets, convicts are strong, and can slam their opponents forceably in combat.As well as brute strength, deft criminals can knife their opponents in the heat of battle. All convicts are the masters of unarmed combat.
In addition to their individual talents, one of the common criminal's greatest advantages is their ability to summon help from the deepest depths of society.Convicts can summon thugs to shoot you down with a driveby attack or call upon their net of spies to gain information on a potential victim's location.Using their pickpocketing and lock picking skills, convicts can fund their operations by stealing from innocent citizens.
Colleagues, the days of the Mafia and the Triad gangs have passed in the annals of history.There are now three main criminal types that dominate the modern underworld.
Nightblades are silent killers; they forego the art of theft and have spent a lifetime perfecting the art of stealth.As a result, they are particularly adept at surprise attacks, including the deadly garotte.Nightblades generally shun communication with the rest of the populace, preferring to live in the shadows and the darkness.
The Thug is a strong, if unsubtle brute.More experienced in the dirtier methods of fighting and bare-fisted combat than most criminals, they are less talented at stealthy and silent attacks. Due to their immense strength, they have been known to stun police officers by slamming them into the ground.
Street criminals have become known as Rats; expert thieves, knife men and seemingly constantly slipping in and out of the shadows.Although they are not rough fighters, Rats have a fine eye for making the telling blow.These imps have the extra abilities of spreading street rumors and estimating the value of both objects and the contents of a person's pockets.
In conclusion, my friends, we must be on our guard at all times. Our most effective weapons are our system of justice and our belief that good will win over evil.And remember this--you can never have enough donuts for lunch.'
