Draklar is an island off the coast of the prime continent on the planet Empire. The only known way onto the island is by taking a magical sailing ship from the port near Rialla. Previous access to the island was forbidden by the original Lord who claimed the entire island for himself.

Now a new Lord has taken control and the islands people find themselves part of a whole new world as travellers come and go. The town of Anavah supports the majority of the island's population. Due to the harsh rule of the previous Lord the people of Anavah live in utter poverty, most people not even being able to find enough food to stay healthy. The town is surrounded on two sides by ocean, and on the other two sides by dense jungle. The jungle is rumored to be a most confusing place, few people dare venture into it for fear of getting lost. The coast line of most of the island is tall granite cliffs, but the south end is a sandy beach, in some places there are large patches of quicksand which can suck an unsuspecting traveller under in a few seconds.

The very center of the island (NE of Anavah) is a large dormant volcano. It has been reported to have caves running all through it. These caves are the suspected hiding place of Ragan the Obese and his band of thieves. Ragan used to repeatedly raid Anavah for food, supplies and valuables but recently his coffers are as dry as the town's. He once tried to attack the great Draklar Castle (on the far NE side of the island) but was repelled easily by a force of elite guards and large wolves.

An ancient monastery lies somewhere on the mountain, home to an eccentric group of monk like people who call themselves theosophists. All in all, everyone seems to leave each other alone, and no one goes near the castle.

The castle stands on a promontory on the northeast side of the island atop a high cliff that threatens to throw the entire structure into the brine, but it has stood for centuries, never moving. After the previous Lord vanished (under bizarre circumstances) a new, extremely powerful Lord took over, installing a full garrison of guardsman, some rumored to not even be human.

On of the great mysteries of Draklar is the appearance of the Dimer, or what are typically referred to as sea elves by humans. They occasionally come into the town of Anavah to trade their exotic goods with Knarl the main shop keeper. No one knows exactly where the elves come from, but they must have a community somewhere near the island beneath the waves.
