Mogadon

The planet Mogadon is a liveworld near a natural jump portal in deep space.

Discovered in 3989 CE, the world of Mogadon is an undeveloped liveworld near a natural jump portal. The jump portal is located not far from the world of Mogadon itself and follows the planet in its orbit.

Ships exiting from the jump portal are subject to an extreme gravitational shear, which caused the first two ships (the warship Invictus and the creche ship Amaranth) to use the portal to crash on the world of Mogadon. Later explorers discovered the proper means to use the jump portal and a small space station is now in orbit over the planet.

The vast majority of the planet is closed to exploration and exploitation under interdict, as there are several native species that are developing intelligence, culture, and possibly civilization. However, the area near the two shipwrecks has been cordoned off from the rest of the planet and is now open for general exploitation.

As there is no actual jumpgate in this system, only jumpships can reach Mogadon, by using the natural jump portal.
