Mutant
From StarWiki
Some humans survived radioactive mutation during and after the Big Oops.
While most mutations from radiation are harmful and result in the death of the mutant, some are beneficial. There are four main strains of mutant from the Big Oops, along with a myriad of more unique combinations.
All mutants are greatly resistant to radiation.

Subspecies
Atavoid
Often referred to as 'throwbacks', atavoid mutants are much, much stronger and more durable than the average human. Standing over two meters tall, they are heavily muscled. Unfortunately, they are incapable of normal speech, although those who have communications implants are still able to speak over channels. They are also stupid and find learning many skills to be more difficult.
Cerebrite
Cerebrite mutants, or 'brainiacs' in common parlance, are the opposites of atavoids. Their heads are almost twice the size of a normal human, to hold their expanded brain, and they are generally weak and sickly. They are gifted with great intelligence and even stronger psionic powers. The psionic mutations, however, are not entirely stable, often resulting in unexpected and possibly detrimental effects.
Skotan
Skotan mutants are the rarest of the four common strains of mutant. Their skin has a strong, uncontrollable chameleon reflex which leads to them being hidden almost all of the time. They are very dextrous, but lack both physical and psionic strength. Their eyes are adapted to see in any level of darkness. Skotan mutants refuse to wear any type of armor, as it would prevent their natural defenses from working. The skotan society is very close-knit and all skotans are psionically aware of each other's presence, and in addition are able to communicate with each other with the 'race' channel.
Viscoid
The most populous strain of mutants are the viscoids, or 'goobers'. Their skin secretes a thick, slippery, mildly radioactive goo, but otherwise, they are mostly human. They are slightly stronger and slightly less prone to intellectual pursuits than a normal human. Last, but not least, the mutation has made them inexhaustible. They never need sleep or rest. On some worlds, viscoid mutants have been enslaved, although most worlds where humans reside find this repugnant as any large group of viscoids in an area inevitably becomes completely coated in their disgusting goo, which leads to large amounts of bacterial growth and a horrible stench.
